Your First Appointment at the PLC Health Clinic

Think you might be pregnant?  If you are considering scheduling an appointment at a medical clinic for pregnancy confirmation, you may wonder exactly what the appointment will look like.  We understand that the anticipation of finding out the results can bring a level of anxiety; the staff at the PLC Health Clinic want to provide you with all the information needed in preparation for your first appointment.

The PLC Health Clinic exists to offer compassionate and comprehensive care to women and men who might find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy.  Our staff provides information on parenting, adoption, and abortion, because we believe an informed decision is an empowered decision.  From there, we will walk along side every patient to make sure they are not alone in the decisions they make throughout their pregnancy.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT

While the medical clinic does accept walk-ins, we encourage those we serve to make an appointment if possible. This can often minimize your wait time and allow our staff to best serve you; giving you our undivided attention needed for your appointment.  When you arrive for your pregnancy test, you will be greeted by a staff member who will ask for a form of identification and an insurance card, if applicable, to keep on file.  You will be given paperwork to complete and then be taken into our clinic area by our nurse.   After having a short consultation, our nurse will ask you to provide a urine sample for your pregnancy test.

We always encourage our patients to bring guests with them if that is what they prefer, but we will always meet with the patient alone to begin the appointment to get to know you. Our nurse will speak with you about your medical background and inform you of the results of your pregnancy test.  She will also determine if a no cost life affirming ultrasound can be performed that day and if not, one will be scheduled for you. There will be a time later in your visit in which you’ll have the opportunity to invite your guest to come back with you for support.

If your pregnancy test result is positive, your appointment will continue with a short meeting with our Patient Services Coordinator.  If there is time during your conversation, she will gather some more information and paperwork from you.  If there is not time, we will schedule a follow-up appointment for you if you are interested in engaging in our services for you and baby.  Our goal during this time is to provide you with all the information about your options regarding pregnancy and offer a safe space for you to talk through the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of your pregnancy.  We also want to provide you the opportunity to participate in our Earn While You Learn program to help you grow as a mother and earn much needed material items for you and your baby.

WHAT FEES ARE INVOLVED?

We are a free medical clinic and each of our services are offered at no cost to you!  We are able to provide these services free of charge to you because of generous donors within our community who believe in what we do and to allow you to receive compassion care and support from the beginning of your pregnancy journey until your child is 2 years old.

WHERE ARE WE LOCATED?

We are located at 215 North Market Street in Van Wert, Ohio.  You can find us at the corner of Market Street and Johnson Avenue with our building entrance and parking lot facing one another and Johnson Avenue.

WHAT OTHER SERVICES DO WE PROVIDE?

While we are proud to offer FREE pregnancy tests and life affirming ultrasounds,  we want to make sure that we can support you beyond your initial pregnancy test appointment.  We will do that through a number of amazing resources, community referrals, and programs such as our Earn While You Learn Program.  We also offer free STI/STD testing to the community, teen services within the schools and beginning the summer of 2024 housing to pregnant mothers in need of a safe and stable home to house themselves and their babies for the first months of their baby's life.

Regardless of the situation you may find yourself in, we want you to know that you do not have to walk through this alone. You can trust our team to provide you with excellent care and to make sure that you have access to everything you need to have a successful pregnancy and beyond.
